The Covid-19 Crisis Highlights the Need for “Digital Upskilling”…
The current pandemic has highlighted the need for digital tech skills as remote working from home and virtual learning continue to move to the forefront and become more mainstream. Every job is becoming a tech job in some way, in that moving forward, we will all need to know tech skills at some level. With the rapid change in tech advances the need to stay ahead of the curve and keep learning new skills becomes even more critical. It goes without saying that tech specific jobs obviously require a deep intimate knowledge of the machinery, but as concerns grow over cyber security, even the knowledge of basic security awareness by…

Essential Music: “Women In Chains” by Tears for Fears featuring Oleta Adams
This song popped on one of my playlists and it’s one of those songs that makes me pause and reflect on the beauty of it. Enchantingly soothing vocals, velvety melodies and a hard drum that only Phil Collins could do. “Tears for Fears just wanted me to do that big drum thing from ‘In the Air Tonight‘…” Collins recalled. “We want you to come in here in a big way.” Song: “Woman in Chains” Artist: Tears for Fears featuring Oleta Adams Album: The Seeds of Love ℗ 1989 Mercury Records Limited Released on: 1989-09-25 Producer, Associated Performer, Bass Guitar: Curt Smith Producer, Associated Performer, Electric Guitar, Vocals, Keyboards, Drum Programming:…

It’s a Generational Thing…
I have long been fascinated by generations and how they are defined. Ever since I was young. What exactly is a ‘generation’?,Who declares them?, and how are they defined?, I constantly wondered. What made one generation different from another? Turns out, we do. Sorta. Us, along with natural and societal events. Wikipedia describes a generation as, “all of the people born and living at about the same time, regarded collectively.” Ok. I’ll go with that. Wikipedia goes on to say: Generation is also often used synonymously with cohort in social science; under this formulation it means “people within a delineated population who experience the same significant events within a given period of time”.[1] Generations in this sense of birth cohort, also…

Linked In, Microsoft, GitHub Offer Pandemic Relief through Online Education Training Courses & Certification…
As part of the Microsoft Ecosystem, Linked In, GitHub and Microsoft are helping 25 million jobseekers get back to work through a global skills initiative aimed at helping workers learn the digital skills needed for the new economy. They are working together across various Microsoft-owned platforms to make all the resources available for free for everyone in one place — opportunity.linkedin.com. Linked In is one of the less flashy, less talked-about social networks but it still holds its own with an impressive amount of traffic. I actually have found that I enjoy using it and found it to be a great resource for industry news and updates and of course the…

Vim–How to Cut, Copy & Paste Text
Copy & Paste: Select/Highlight: First to select the characters use ‘v’ to enter ‘VISUAL’ mode. (Hit ‘v’ again to go back to “normal” mode.) Learning To Program Is Hard…
Learning to program is hard. Learning to program on your own is REALLY hard. In my journey, I’ve come across many different courses, books, videos and other seemingly endless ways of learning. Some more confusing than others. But by way of self-studying, while frustrating, I’ve also gained the confidence of accomplishment from learning on my own and knowing how to get the information I need. There are time’s I want to quit. Many times. Sometimes, just having the right learning materials and methods of instruction can make ALL the difference. I firmly believe this. Similar to what separates a good trainer from and bad trainer, or a good teacher from…

Vim–The Vi IMproved Text Editor
As happens SO MANY times when I am learning to program, I start off on one topics the the journet quickly swerves into unchartered territory and I find myself in the deep reaches of the Google-verse searching up topics I didn’t even know existed or previously knew little to nothing about. It was during one such journey that I stumbled across Vim. Upon first learning about it, I quickly opened it up in my command line to see what it was, and then, just as quickly, I ended up hating it. As seems to be the norm for many a Vim newbie. But seeing that is was a lightweight program…
